Takeaway Tweets & Transcript from #CampusChat with Sharon Mostyn

Fotolia_tweeting Last night's CampusChat with a REAL MOM, Sharon Mostyn, resulted the coming together of several other moms, college admissions experts, SAT/ACT test prep experts, counselors, and many others with insights into the college admissions process. At last count, 21 people participated and 348 questions and answers were tweeted in the span of about an hour an half.

Moms of high school juniors and seniors chimed in sharing their questions and what they've learned along the way. For moms of juniors, questions focused on college prep tests: the SAT and ACT: When is the best time to take the SAT? How do you know which your teen should take and why? How many times should a student take the SAT.

Answers about SAT/ACT testing included the following recommendations:

  • Have teens take SAT /ACT practice tests online — the could help teen decide which test is best to take.
  • Follow the program the HS recommends and helps students prep for.
  • Have teen look at colleges' web sites to see which test each school of interest requires.
  • If not in the Fall of Junior year, definitely take college prep test in the Spring.

There were many other topics addressed during this chat including: writing college admissions essays, touring colleges, spring break tours, junior visit programs, and questions to ask on college tours as well as questions to ask guidance counselors.
