Advice on College Visits from TV’s ‘Growing Pains’ Dad: Alan Thicke

Alan Thicke

UPDATE: Alan Thicke passed away on Dec. 9, 2016. We were reminded of this wonderful conversation we’d had with the popular actor and author in 2011, and wanted to share it again. We’d like to extend our condolences to Thicke’s family.

Award-winning actor, author, composer, producer, and father of three, Alan Thicke has spent many years in the role of “Dad.” Whether as psychiatrist Dr. Jason Seavers in the hit television series, “Growing Pains” or in his life off-screen, Alan has tackled many of the same challenges we all face when parenting teens during the college-bound years. In this interview, Alan offers up tips for parents on how to make the most of a college visit.

Alan Thicke is also the author of How Men Have Babies: The Pregnant Father’s Survival Guide and How to Raise Kids Who Won’t Hate You: Bringing Up Rockstars and Other Forms of Children.
