Scholarship Mom Tip #10: Search Smart

10Searching for scholarships online can be very time consuming and frustrating. Cut down on the amount of sites that have you “clicking to nowhere” by using very specific search terms.

Instead of searching for “scholarships,” be specific and use the student’s possible major and the current year.

      Ex: “engineering scholarships 2013.”

Google

Take advantage of Google search tools and further narrow down your results by choosing the “past year” option.  This eliminates most old scholarships that may be discontinued and, instead, brings up current scholarship applications and guidelines. You can try similar techniques using Bing or Yahoo for scholarship searches.
