Parent College Coach Tip #80: Prepare for Standardized Tests

prep for standarized tests

The vast majority of students who take standardized tests never prepare. They never take a practice test. They never study vocabulary. They never spend even one minute studying. But that’s a huge mistake. Your student would never approach any test without preparation, and the standardized tests are no different.

I love this quote from #CampusChat this week from Akil Bello, test prep tutor and expert:

Start Early.Take practice tests to determine which test (SAT/ACT) to focus on & prep if you need it.

It’s especially important when taking the PSAT–much is at stake and most students consider this to be a practice test. Nothing could be further from the truth. Scoring well on the PSAT could net you a full ride at some colleges.

Find a method that works best for your student. Whether using free practice tests, paid test prep, or online tutoring, dedicate some genuine time to study. The reward will be offers of admission, valuable merit aid, and possibly a full-ride scholarship.
